SHOULDER PAIN-this refer in and around the shoulder joint and shoulder girdle. Shoulder pain have varying causes, from pain referral from the neck, to pain referral to the left shoulder from the chest in case heart attack or related heart conditions, to pain referral from tumour. Pain can also be caused by traumatic injury to the shoulder, degenerative changes affecting the joint and soft tissues around it and oftentimes may be referred down the upper limb or accompanied by feeling of “pins and needles or tingling sensation. Recovering stroke patient often experience pain in the hemiplegic/weak/ paralysed shoulder( hemiplegic shoulder pain)
Acute Shoulder pain can be managed using Ice pack application for 7minutes, followed by gentle soft tissue massage with non- steroidal anti-inflammatory gel/ cream. Rest/support in an arm sling or shoulder brace is also helpful and of course, prescribed Analgesics.
